Self Reflection
Making this project was quite a task for me, and I wished I had taken the time to formulate a short film, but I’m happy with the way my short story turned out. I wanted to create a story similar to the film 1408, keeping the essential themes of the cynical main character, and how he’s used his writing for a large amount of his success, leading to an inflated ego. The cynicism of the movie was a really entertaining part of it, because there was a large character arc that Mike Enslin went through. I tried to preserve the elements of the film and short story that made it what it was. When writing my story, I feel the tone of it was more directed towards being for a screen, rather than on paper, as that was my original vision. I feel that I could have put an exponentially larger amount of effort into my story, and possibly if I wanted to make my film adaptation. The themes I went for as far as society goes is that I wanted to commentate on how horror is displayed in media, and how lucrative of a scene it is, as well as how hard it is to get right. I also wanted to commentate on the ignorance of skepticism, and while it is entirely okay to be skeptical, I do believe that there are spirits, or otherwise supernatural beings that roam on our planet, although not tangible, or able to be experienced first hand, I believe that if we are able to scientifically prove a hole in space that absorbs all light that goes into it, with the capability of destroying stars, that ghosts on a speck of our universe are inside the realm of possibility. On this project I feel that the grade I deserve at the very least is in the C to a B- range, as I have given out a product, but not nearly of my best work, or maximum effort. I squandered the large amount of time that I had to complete this project and I wholly understand that.
